"details": "Charles Johnson founded 4Kira4Moms after the tragic, preventable death of his wife, Kira, during childbirth. He transformed grief into national advocacy for maternal health, especially for Black families. He is a board member of March for Moms and serves as Chairman of the Fairness of Injured Patients Act, which seeks to restore the rights of victims of medical negligence in California. Charles has testified before Congress and helped pass key legislation, including the Preventing Maternal Death Act of 2018 and the California Momnibus. He is currently working with Congress to pass the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act of 2021. Charles centers his work on the human rights dimensions of maternal mortality while raising his two sons.",

She was the founding director of the Democracy Program at the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law.
